February Fashion: A Take On Earrings

Chloe Mendoza, Co-Editor in Chief

I am a huge proponent of self-expression. As most of us know, I love the depth of fashion and opportunity for exploration it has to offer. Fashion is for all genders, ages, sizes, and identities. Some people wear statement shoes, unique bottoms, or vintage tops. But one of my favorite ways to complete a look is by wearing earrings.

There is a pair of earrings for every mood, occasion, and style in the world! These little pieces of jewelry never fail to make me smile, and hold a special place in my heart. Today my earring collection ranges from chunky, classic and muted, to vibrant, dangly, and quirky. Here are six of my favorite pairs of earrings!

Gold Serene Faces:

A couple Christmases ago, I received this pair of earrings as a gift from my best friend! Since then they have become a staple in my collection. They are simple and classy, yet unique and interesting! Something about faces always intrigues me. This pair goes with all of my outfits and especially compliments all of my black clothes.

Beaded Gold Hoops:

Everyone should own a pair of gold hoops. They’re iconic, bold, and classic. When I received this pair from my mom last Christmas, I was elated! This colorfully beaded set is a unique take on the gold hoop. I absolutely love wearing them with any and all outfits! When I want to add a pop of color to a neutral look, these are perfect.

Jade Green Droplets:

I bought these earrings at a local craft store located in downtown Selma, Bead Central. They were handmade by the shop owner! These small green droplets are my favorite pair in my collection. This particular shade of green is currently my favorite color. I wear lots of browns and neutral colors, and this pair happens to fit perfectly with my aesthetics.

Lollipop Hearts:

These stand-out lollipops were gifted to me by the same best friend mentioned earlier! She knows me too well. I am a Valentine’s Day baby, and true to my nature I am a sucker for borderline disgustingly adorable holiday earrings! This last year Gen Z started an earring trend that I will never stray from. Random objects like rubber ducks, playing cards, and goldfish hang from the ears of many stylish young people these days. I happen to be one of those people!

KORI Polymer Clay Dangle Earrings in Opal, Blue Ginkgo Leaves:

This last pair of earrings are from the local Etsy shop BabyBellandJake! Shop owner, Kassandra Garcia, is Selma High School’s very own Special Education teacher Mrs.Garcia! I was inspired by the inclusive messages and beautiful craftsmanship of this shop. This set holds a special place in my collection, and is perfect for creating an elegant, spring-time look. Larger earrings create statements, and that’s what I’m all about!

Some of my favorite places to find unique earrings are at local craft stores and online shops owned by BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) and women! You can find BabyBellandJake on Instagram @babybellandjake or Esty @BabybellandJake
