At Selma High, not only do we have fashionable students, but we also have fashionable staff members, such as Mr. Ly and Ms. Garcia.
Mr. Ly, who works as a school counselor here at SHS likes to wear casual business attire. Although Mr. Ly likes to wear comfortable clothing, he finds a way to add a fashionable touch to his outfits by wearing dress shoes from Cole Haan’s. Since Mr. Ly is also a big sneakerhead, he likes to wear shoes such as Jordan’s. Outside of school, Mr. Ly likes to wear streetwear clothes and a more relaxed fit such as jeans and graphic tees.
Mr. Ly likes to wear any brand with comfortable and fashionable clothes.
“Uniqlo would be one [brand] if I had to choose,” shares Mr. Ly.
Since working in a cool office space, Mr. Ly likes to layer his clothes with a long sleeve button up and a nice jacket over it.
Something that Mr. Ly cannot leave the house without is a watch.
“More often than not, there will be a watch on my wrist,” mentions Mr. Ly.
If Mr. Ly had to wear the same thing every day for the rest of his life, he says that he would wear a button up, dress pants, dress shoes, a nice belt, and a nice watch.
Lastly, Mr. Ly wants to add his own tip when it comes to fashion.
“Everyone has their own sense of style. Don’t be afraid to express yourself and set a
trend,” states Mr. Ly.
Ms. Garcia, activities director at SHS prioritizes comfort when it comes to clothing. Running around on campus calls for reliable but trendy pieces. Ms. Garcia shares that she gets most of her clothing from Target and Old Navy. Flowing with the recent trend, Ms. Garcia enjoys thrifting second hand pieces as well. She enjoys Poshmark, a mobile app that serves as a marketplace of second hand goods. Ms. Garcia says she has also gotten a few pieces from the Tik Tok shop too.
“I love to wear rings and earrings. Shoes are fun to switch out too. Adding small jewelry pieces and different shoes can make an outfit look completely different,” states Ms. Garcia.
At school Ms. Garcia enjoys wearing jeans, linen pants, oversized button downs, or a casual shirt paired with a cardigan. Outside of school, Ms. Garcia styles dresses or a pair of jeans with a band tee. From vintage to modern styles Ms. Garcia collects dresses. Her current favorite band t-shirt is from Nine Inch Nails, and she snatched this item when she saw the band in March. With the warmer weather approaching quickly, Ms. Garcia pitched her must-haves.
“ I get so hot so easily! Ask any of my students about how cold my classroom is when it’s warm out. Sandals and clothing pieces made of cotton and linen are a MUST for me when it’s hot,” shares Ms. Garcia.
Some staples in footwear for Ms. Garcia have to be her Nike Vomeros. These shoes are known for their durability and comforting foam during daily use. Ms. Garcia emphasizes that these are the most comfortable shoes she’s ever owned. She owns them in three different colors, including orange and black. Ms. Garcia especially appreciates these shoes during home football games. Aside from Nike comfort, Ms. Garcia has a handful of different styles of Doc Martens. She enjoys platform shoes that Doc Marten has a variety of. When asked what was Ms. Garcia’s “signature” item she said it would have to be a pair of Doc Martens or her silver ring made with a billiard ball.
Ms. Garcia adds, “ If I see something specific that I want, like a pair of shoes, or a certain clothing item, I will either try to thrift it, or look to see if anyone is selling it second hand online.”
