Are you looking for a way to expand your style? Look no further, let’s dig into the styles present at Selma High, starting with senior Izaiah Gonzalez.
When it comes to Izaiah, he doesn’t focus on just one particular style, but works to incorporate various styles.
“I love European country style, which is a bit formal yet mixed with
workwear. I also love Y2K and streetwear, so I incorporate those styles as well. Overall, I take inspiration from things that I love, from styles to video games, shows, etc.,” shares Izaiah.
Izaiah mainly likes to thrift when it comes to where he buys his clothes. He likes to wear clothes that are comfortable and likes using the layering technique with his clothes. He does this by wearing jackets on top of hoodies and long sleeves over shirts. Different colors of blues and blacks are his favorite to wear.
For bottoms, Izaiah likes to wear baggy jeans, but would like to explore boot cut and slimmer jeans.
Izaiah’s go-to items for footwear are black boots since he likes the look of bulky shoes, and loafers that add a formal touch to certain outfits. His Onitsuka Tiger shoes that he bought in Japan also provide a pop of a nice chrome color in his outfits.
When building an outfit, Izaiah enjoys adding multiple accessories to enhance his outfits. The number one way that he does this is by wearing chains.
“For the most part, I like to stack chains on top of each other. However, I also like wearing wallet chains to add another layer of depth to outfits,” expresses Izaiah.
Lastly, other little pieces that Izaiah will add to accessorize his outfits are a watch, a tie, a belt, and a scarf.
Senior Camila Martinez finds herself back in the 2000s when it comes to her sense of style. Call it time traveling, per se. Camila finds these 2000s gems at second-hand stores or yard sales. While keeping up with her admiration for this style, she also gets a great deal with her strategy.
“I like buying clothes from yard sales, that’s where I find unique pieces for much lower prices,” states Camila.
To create that perfect match for her unique pieces, Camila finds joy in making her own accessories. Camila focuses on cool jewelry and colorful eyeglasses to spruce up her everyday looks. While keeping her outfits in check with her fashion stand
ards, Camila is wise about her choices considering her schedule.
“When building an outfit, I prefer comfort since I am very active throughout the day,” explains Camila.
On the days Camilia doesn’t limit her fashionable aspirations, she can always count on the iconic low-waisted bootcut jeans. For those who don’t know, low-waisted jeans were a staple in the early-mid 2000s. Not only does she receive inspiration from the 2000s trends, but as well as an influencer on TikTok who goes by @bmgaribay.
Now let’s talk about footwear.
“Some of my go-to items for footwear are Doc Martens, especially my brown Mary Janes, which go with almost everything,” adds Camila.
You can never go wrong with a pair of Doc Martens. Camila emphasizes that her brown Mary Jane shoes are a must in her closet. The 90’s inspired footwear sprinkles in that goal of achieving a soft-vintage style. While sticking with a particular fashion style, Camila expresses she does face small burdens. But does the burden stop her? No way. Fashion is a lifestyle.
“Since I buy second-hand clothes, it is difficult to find items that fit me. I resolved this problem by teaching myself how to tailor clothes,” shares Camila.
