The 2026 ROTC CECA Field Meet saw SHS MCJROTC win first place in five out of individual events and secured to be 1st Place Overall Team and overall winner of this year’s field meet. Selma High MCJROTC held the 28th Annual CECA (Central California) Field Meet on SHS campus on March 14, 2026 from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The field meet was composed of several physical and team-building challenges such as push-ups and combat dodgeball. This year CECA Field Meet saw five JROTC teams attend: Selma, Dinuba, Turlock, Fresno, and Duncan.
The first event, scheduled at 8:30 AM, was a mile relay where a team of eight cadets, four male cadets and four female cadets, took turns running 200 meters at the track and handing off a baton (relay stick) to the next person. For Selma, Cadet Private First Class Toralez started off the relay and Cadet Sergeant Luna finished the relay for Selma. Selma took first place in this event, Fresno took second, and Turlock took third.
Shuttle run was the second event, starting at 9:00 AM, and it involved teams of 12 total cadets where six cadets were placed on the edge of both endzones of the football field in Staley Stadium. A cadet on one side started with the baton and sprinted to the other side of the field which covered 100 yards. They’ll then pass the baton to the cadet on the other side and that person would sprint back to the other side to pass the baton again. Selma took first place in this event, Turlock took second, and Fresno took third.
Freshmen Broadwalk was the third event, starting at 9:20 AM, and it involved teams of five cadets that weren’t very experienced with the event. This event challenges their teamwork and their synchronization of their movement to walk forward while standing on two parallel wooden planks. Cadet Private First Class Zavala was the leader for Selma’s team. Selma took first place, Fresno took second, and Duncan took third.
Open Broadwalk happened right after it, starting at 9:25 AM, and it’s the same as the Freshmen Broadwalk but involves cadets that are more experienced. Cadet Second Lieutenant Ambrosio was the leader for Selma’s team. Duncan took first, Fresno took second, and Selma took third.
Push-ups was the fifth event, starting at 9:40 AM, and each team had eight total cadets, four female and four males, were challenged to do the most amount of push-ups possible. Fresno took first place, Selma took second, Dinuba took third.
Planks were next, starting at 10:00 AM, and teams of eight total cadets, four females and four males, were challenged to do planks as long as possible against all the others. Selma took first, Duncan took second, and Dinuba took third.
Combat Dodgeball and Crossfit both started at 10:15 AM. Each school had a male and female team for both events. Combat Dodgeball involved two teams of six cadets attempting to hit members on the opposing team with a rubber dodgeball, with eliminated people still allowed to stand behind the opposing team and try to get them out as well. For males, Duncan took first place, Fresno took second, and Dinuba took third. For females, Selma took first place, Duncan took second, and Fresno took third.
Crossfit involved cadets carrying another person on their back and moving in between cones, carrying heavy ammo boxes, throwing an object to a designated spot, and dragging a person all the way back to the start. Unfortunately Selma’s male team didn’t place top three and Selma’s female team was disqualified due to time constraints and one of their team members pushing themselves too hard.
