As Spring approaches, the softball season commences. Described as “Hungry, goated, and awesome,” the softball team awaits every challenge and accomplishment that is to come! From the bond on and off the field, to the true dedication, these players have it coming for this year’s season. Beginning the season with continuous practice on fundamentals, players focus on improving their individual batting averages and strengthening their fielding to advance throughout the season.
“I can see all of us are really happy to be here, we’re just showing that we’re really hungry for playoffs and league,” shares senior Emma Galaviz.
Aiming for little to no errors throughout games, the team strives for continuous wins and ultimately a better season. Remembering the importance of showing what it means to carry Selma Bear Pride, these girls aren’t just hungry for wins; they’re hungry and eager to show up and show out. Moving past prior mistakes and instead showing true school spirit, the season has already gotten a taste of what’s to come. The team shows its true energy and loud attitude while juggling wins and losses!
Even as players maintain their A-game attitude on the field, they experience some interference with schoolwork. Keeping a schedule to manage both softball and outside priorities, players build true bonds within the team.
“We’re all definitely really close. We’ve all become like one, and we just know how to play well with each other,” says sophomore Audrina Quintana.
Being a part of the team doesn’t just mean playing well together; it signifies a bond made from vulnerability, trust, support, and ultimately unity. Seeing past each other’s mistakes and/or successes, these girls go out each game, not only fighting for the win but enjoying each moment, all while taking in each memory in hopes of many more to come.
So, as this year’s softball season begins, the connection between players does as well. Built from shared effort, pressure, and purpose, each practice and game doesn’t just make the team better, but more importantly, it allows players to strive for more. Their drive isn’t about ego, but rather about making their investment worthwhile. Succeeding starts now!
