On October 11, 2025, Selma High’s homecoming dance took place in the dining hall. The dance was planned by the senior class officers in leadership and the senior class advisors, Ms. Loving and Mrs. Luviano.
The senior class officers started planning for the homecoming dance at the beginning of September. They scheduled meetings where they would brainstorm ideas and decided on the theme “A Golden Autumn Night.”
“We wanted something that felt seasonal and cozy at the same time. We brainstormed a couple of ideas, but this [theme] stood out to us the most,” shares Senior Class Secretary Kilene Acosta.
To create an autumn feel at the dance, the senior class officers decorated the space with golden accents, fall leaves, and other elegant decorations.
From decorations, photobooths, and food, a lot of planning went into every single detail to put on a dance for the whole school, which came with a lot of stress.
From having to find a DJ to ordering all of the necessary decorations ahead of time to prevent last-minute ordering, Ms. Loving shares some of the difficulties of planning a school dance.
Although stressful, Ms. Loving expresses that being super organized and keeping a record of everything made the process easier.
At the dance itself, many students enjoyed themselves and had a great time all around.
“My experience at the dance this year was really enjoyable and I feel like it was one of the best ones yet,” expressed senior Jonna Trevino-Vasquez. “I would say my favorite part of the dance is when everyone started going on the dance floor. It makes it a lot more fun when there are a lot of people dancing, so it really added to the experience.”
Senior Jorge Gonzalez stated that his experience at the dance was good, especially since he got to spend time with friends.
“I really liked the fall theme; it was very classy, and the decorations really made the room feel complete. I also really liked how a lot of people actually dressed up according to the theme,” mentioned Jorge.
A favorite moment that he recalls from the dance is when they announced the homecoming royalty winners and the top three candidates for the senior class. It was a suspenseful moment as silence filled the room and left everyone anxious to hear who the top three would be.
Overall, the turnout of the dance was amazing as many people showed up and had fun.
Lastly, Kilene adds, “A huge thank you to Ms. Loving and Mrs. Luviano. We couldn’t have done it without you guys!”
