At Friday’s Homecoming game on October 17, 2025, Selma High’s varsity football team takes the victory from Sierra Pacific. With a score of 23-20, the football team’s spirits are lifted to the utmost exhilaration as they move up the ranks. The stands roared with Orange Pride for the bears that Friday night.
It was a chilly Friday evening as the stands were filled with orange attire for the Orange Out dress up theme.
Selma started the game strong as the crowd cheered them on. They took a 14 point lead in the first half of the game.
After the halftime activities, Selma went back onto the field. During the third quarter, Sierra Pacific gained 14 points, tying the score 14-14.
Beginning the fourth quarter, the teams were ambitious for a point to win. Both teams coming close to the other’s endzone, either team would back down. The crowd held their breath with every close call. With 40 seconds left in the fourth and final quarter, the bears were able to hold off Sierra Pacific and they entered overtime.
Entering overtime, Couch Mitchell Francis and the players huddled up and talked about their struggle. The crowd watched as the players smiled with a new found enthusiasm readied on the field. In the first ten minutes of overtime, Selma made a touchdown which made the score 20-14. As the game progressed, Sierra Pacific snuck in a touchdown and evened the score to 20-20. They were neck and neck as the watchers sat on the edge of their seats.
As the game neared its end, Selma had received a field goal opportunity. Alexis Pacheco was chosen to take the kick. Everyone watched as the whistle blew and Pacheco kicked. Pacheco made the field goal and sealed the homecoming win, ending in a score of 23-20,
“Our team played a great and competitive game on Friday. With our kicker Alexis Pacheco making the game winning field goal to give us the win!” exclaimed Noah Torres, Right guard for Selma’s varsity football team.
After this victory, the Selma Bears added a third win to their list. They stand in third place in the Tri-County – Sequoia League and plan to move up.
Now the team prepares for their rivalry game against Kingsburg on October 31st.
