Sarah Flores is a senior at Selma High School . She has a very diverse style when it comes to clothing. There is never a dull moment when it comes to her fashion.
“I get most of my inspiration from music artists I listen to and pinterest,”Sarah states.
She loves to put a modern spin on 90s fashion trends by including baggy jeans and incorporating a lot of graphic tee shirts.
“I like to have a more comfortable style for school,” she says.
Even when Sarah tones down her outfits she manages to make herself stand out with her unique style. Sarah enjoys thrifting and buys a lot of her pieces at local thrift stores and some name brand shops such as Holister.
“I don’t really stick with one thing. I kind of go between being more feminine and more tomboy,” expresses Sarah.
Sarah enjoys to really express herself through her clothing and being herself through this medium of self expression. She changes it up here and there, but she recommends that others should really just have fun with what they wear and not fit into social norms that’s blocking them from this form of self expression.
“I go back and forth between more baggy loose fits and more bootcut jeans,” explains Sarah.
She doesn’t stick to just certain looks and likes to explore outside of her comfort zone. Although she mentions she might struggle with coordinating colors within her outfits, she continues to really go out there and explore what best suits her and her preferences within fashion. Especially with the weather change, it’s her favorite time to explore new outfit ideas.
With junior Izaiah Gonzalez Barrita, he is more excited about the shift in the weather as we finally enter the fall season. He has been leaning more towards hoodies, baggy jeans, and boots.
“I like the colder seasons. I love wearing hoodies and layering,” indicates Izaiah.
Most of Izaiah’s cozy outfits are from resale places down in Fresno, with thrift stores such as Mad Monk and Retro Park Vintage. Outside of the vintage thrifting environment, he likes to shop at mostly Nordstrom and H&M. Something recent he has picked up is trying to get more accessories added into his wardrobe. Stores such as Comte, an instagram brand from New York, have made him more interested in discovering how accessories really bring your outfit together.
“In three words, I would describe my style as conservative, clean, and sharp,” expresses Izaiah.
He doesn’t really hold a specific style or label to what he wears. Like Sarah, he likes to switch it up once in a while and pull from different styles for his outfits. What he feels he does best on is matching his clothing together, keeping his clean look.
“I still don’t think I have my portions correct. I think I can improve on my proportions, you know, because I’m a tall guy,” explains Izaiah.
When it comes to sizing it’s a bit of a struggle for Izaiah due to his height in his search for clothes that look good, fit, and are the right type of clothing that he’s most comfortable in. Especially in this cooler weather, he is much more invested in baggy clothing while really trying to shape it into his own kind of style. He pulls inspiration from social media, such as from apps like Instagram, but mostly it’s all his doing and creativeness.
