For senior Helen Gonzalez Vasquez, her go-to style recently has been western wear. This includes bootcut jeans, vests, jackets, and boots.
“I like to shop at thrift stores. The ones in Clovis are the best!” says Helen.
For jeans, boots, and tops she would recommend going to Bootbarn and TJMaxx to purchase them. Goodwill is one of her favorite thrift stores.
Helen gets most of her inspiration through Pinterest, which she looks at right before thrifting to get a better idea of what she specifically is looking for.
“When it comes to brands, for me as long as it’s in good condition at the thrift stores it’s good.” explains Helen.
For Helen, being able to find clothing pieces in good condition is a huge factor to her as she knows they will be durable and last long. One last piece of fashion advice from Helen is if you’re looking into more western wear, it would be the Wrangler Retro High Rise Trousers that go great with boots. As for everyday wear, she recommends the Wrangler High Rise Wide Leg A-Line Jeans, which go well with sandals..
Fellow senior Hernan Vasquez welcomes the change of weather with a grunge approach. This cool weather arriving calls for layers, darker pieces, and shoes that tie the look together. This includes eccentricity, detailed pairs of jeans, layering of clothes, cool button-ups, and platformed Doc Martens.
“I get most of my wardrobe from Depop and thrift stores,” says Hernan.
Hernan makes sure to mention that most of his inspiration comes from the app TikTok, and the several fashion influencers he follows. He also mentions that if he’s struggling to style a piece of clothing he makes sure to check out Pinterest.
“Most of the clothes I wear are pretty much a cumulation of various brands,” Hernan demonstrates that any pieces of clothing are good if they fit the look he is going for. However, a brand Hernan would choose if he had to is Jaded London.
