The First Disappointing Drink
By Maya Grewal
For this review, I was honestly stumped on what to order. There are so many options, and I’ve already tried all the ones that looked appealing and fun. The entire shop was decorated in pink and red, with cute hearts decorating the shop. Because of this, I was pretty sad to see that there was no specialty Valentine’s menu or drinks. I decided that something strawberry would fill in the gaps that were missed by those marks, and I ended up ordering the Peach Strawberry Tea with boba pearls.
The photo of the drink definitely deceived me. When I received my order, the tea was much darker and murkier than the brightly-colored photo. The drink was a deeper, purple-red color, and it reminded me of a swamp. There were bits of peach and strawberry floating in the drink, but the majority of them were resting at the bottom or top of the cup. I was already a bit displeased with this segment, but after my first sip, I was indifferent.
Instantly, I thought of those tiny plastic peach fruit cups you get as a kid, which I remember my mom used to pack in my lunch every once in a while. I also loved the fruit in the cup, but I regretfully could taste almost no strawberry, which was the whole reason I got the drink! They should’ve named the drink “Peach Tea With a Few Pieces of Strawberry in it,” with how off the ratios of peach and strawberry were.
I could also attribute my unpleasant experience to recovering from the flu (ouch) when I went, and nothing tasted very good at the time. However, I let my dad give the drink a try and he had the same complaints (He should get a segment on here, haha). The boba pearls never disappoint, of course, but everything else was just.. as many of you may say… MID! (My dad said it was 6-7… inserting my judgement face).
Overall, this drink was what I imagined. It’s definitely not the worst thing I’ve put in my mouth, but it’s very far from the best. I rate it a 6.5 out of 10: something that wasn’t terrible, but I won’t order it again.
A Refreshing Mango Tea
By Bethany Cazares
For this review, I decided to go with “Freya’s Mango Iced Tea.” I’ve never been a big fan of mango. In fact, I have actually rather strayed away from it, so this was going to be something in a different range for me.
The drink was a vibrant orangey yellow and it reminded me of a sunrise. The drink itself was actually very simple but still scrumptious. It contained mango popping boba which was really tasty, and the flavors were a fruity summer combination. It kind of reminded me of a Sunny D, but a little watered down. The tea wasn’t super sweet, and actually a little bitter, but I think that this flavor nuanced perfectly with the sweet mango flavor of the boba.
This drink was just what I needed in this terrible winter and fog that we’ve been enduring, and gave me a glimpse into what will (hopefully) come soon after these next six weeks of winter. I give this drink a 7/10!
