Redemption Drink: A Horchata Success
By Bethany Cazares
If you can remember the failure I had last issue, I’m sure you could understand my apprehensiveness, but also eagerness for something good to come out of this review. For this issue, I decided to get the horchata smoothie with an additional topping of vanilla ice cream and whipped cream.
Let me just tell you, I was so relieved to have gotten such a good drink. I’m more of a coffee/shake person, and I felt like this drink was a perfect place on that spectrum.
This drink was very rich in flavor, and I really loved how everything came together so well. The drink was sweet, but not in an overbearing way. It was the kind of sweetness that kept you going back for more instead of taking breaks in between.
The additional ice cream is what I think made this drink, I feel like it enhanced the horchata flavor. But to those that are reading, this drink would still be great just by itself as a smoothie. It’s perfect for those that love a cinnamon combination and for something simple, yet flavorful. I would also recommend getting this drink if you’re in a frappe mood, but not in the mood to consume caffeine at the moment.
This drink was an amazing blend that I would 100% recommend to another friend. I rate this drink a 9.5/10!
My Regretful Leap of Faith
By Maya Grewal
I definitely took a leap of faith this time around. For this review, I ordered a Frosty Milk from BobaTime– specifically number three, the one that comes with boba, egg pudding, and strawberry puree. To preface this, I would like to mention I am not the greatest fan of dairy in general, and I haven’t had straight milk in a LONG time (it gives me a tummy ache and nausea). The sole reason I chose this type of drink is that I felt like I needed to take a 180 with my drink choices, because they are typically something I already know I will like. I also ordered this drink with almond milk, rather than whole dairy milk, because I didn’t want to be sick later on.
Presentation-wise, the drink is very cute! The top of the drink is light and milky-colored at the top and it blends into all the other ingredients at the bottom of the cup. The cup, as per usual, is simple yet elegant, with the adorable touch of the decaled top. I’d say this drink is definitely one that has more of a trendy and Instagram-post-worthy look compared to other drinks I’ve had.
My first sip was extremely overwhelming, and I instantly regretted my choice. I was tasting a million different things at once, with several different textures, and my taste buds could not handle it. The main thing I could taste was a tart bitterness, which I honestly don’t even know where that came from (I think it was a syrup at the bottom of the cup).
I decided that it would most likely be better if I mixed all the ingredients, and with no surprise, I enjoyed the post-mixed sip I took ten times more than my first unmixed sip. The bitterness vanished, and I was left with a sweet, strawberry-milky taste. I loved the texture of the slushy-like milk and the breaks between it of the smooth and slimier egg pudding. This drink also has actual bits of strawberry in it, which was definitely my favorite part of it. I actually somewhat regretted getting almond milk over dairy milk, because I feel as though it’d taste better with the dairy version (someone go try it and let me know, please). Similar to my last review, I ended up being left dissatisfied with my drink due to the large amount of egg pudding left without the liquid, which I honestly regret eating because I definitely had a stomachache afterward.
Unfortunately, the leap of faith did not work out in my favor. This drink just wasn’t meant for me, and I’m going to stick to my fruit teas outside of these reviews. I’d rate this a 3.5 out of 10. However, if you’re someone who enjoys milk, dairy, and all the inbetweens of that, this is a great option for you! There are also some other types of Frosty Milks, so you can find the flavors that tailor to your taste buds.
