Two Editors-In-Chief, one goal.
Beth and Maya had to make it to BobaTime in order to make their latest review for the next issue of The Clarion. Their only obstacle: the rain. With only thin sweaters and a shred of bravery, they clung to their sweater’s hoods and stormed through the rain (pun intended). They faced harsh winds, the merciless cold, and the worst of all, were left soaking wet by the sky’s icy waterfall.
Despite their hopeless situation, they stoically fought through, running to the band room, (and turning back to Mr. Castle’s class because Maya had forgotten her broken umbrella) and made their way to their chariot (Maya’s mom’s car). They were taken to BobaTime, where they rushed inside through the crying sky, managing to escape being absolutely drenched.
After their long awaited arrival to their destination, the rain faded, the clouds parted, and the sun shone brightly through the cold autumn afternoon. In a way, it was symbolic. In Mr. Castle fashion, “it holds water” (pun intended). Now, without further ado, enjoy your most recent Boba Time reviews, crafted by yours truly.
A Whole Latte Lavender
By Bethany Cazares
After battling the treacherous rain with Maya and practically freezing, I was really looking forward to reviewing this drink. For this issue, I decided to try the Lavender Milk Tea Latte.
The drink itself was mildly flavorful and surprisingly comforting. It was quite plain compared to the other drinks this store sells, but regardless, it was enjoyable.
At first, it was very sweet, but the grassy lavender aftertaste was actually agreeable and started to grow on me. The drink was light, fresh and took me back to April when the flowers were still in full bloom. (Funny enough, after taking a couple sips of this drink, the rain stopped and suddenly the sun started to shine through the window.) It was refreshing and the flavors–though there weren’t much–were well-balanced and very pleasant.
This drink is something safe for someone to try if you’re not looking for a crazy drink with a lot of extra add ons or risky flavors. Or if you’re someone who likes fruity-floral drinks and is looking for a new drink to add to your rotation.
The drink itself was a little underwhelming, but I think that’s just because of the surge of wild and loaded drinks that are popular today. Drinking this made me stop and realize that the simple things are okay too, and that things that aren’t over the top are still worth a try. I give this drink a 5/10.
A Lemon-tastic Lemonade: Feeling at Home
By Maya Grewal
For this review, I chose to try the Butterfly Lemonade (with boba pearls), specifically because I had 6 dollars to my name and it was the cheapest option on the menu (plus I’ve been wanting to give it a try). Before I get into the actual presentation of the drink, I LOVE the spooky-themed tops on the cups! Very cute and very festive (I’ll give a bonus point for just that alone). The drink itself is very aesthetically pleasing. The lemonade itself is colored in a gradient. The top of the drink is a lovely purple, which fades into yellow at the center, and eventually down to the dark brown color of the boba pearls resting at the bottom of the cup.
The drink comes with a lemon slice in it, which I find adorable, but also yummy (I love lemons). Of course, the drink tastes like your regular lemonade, but I find the lemonade itself to be very tasty and refreshing! It’s well-made and delicious. The drink is very sweet, and you can definitely taste hints of honey and brown sugar. Once again, the boba pearls never cease to amaze me. They’re soft, chewy, sweet, and overall delicious! The drink reminds me of warm and bright summer afternoons as a child, when I’d spend the day out playing and come back inside just for a sip of some lemonade my mom made (love you Mama, those lemonades you made were the best). This taste did sort of clash with the chilly weather we had while reviewing this, so it ruined the vibe just a little bit.
Overall, I rated this a 6/10 on a cold day, but an 8.5/10 on a warm day (maybe save this one for the summer time). Great drink overall!
