My name is Jayleen Orozco. Being the youngest in my family, I have always looked up to my older siblings, learning from them in all aspects. Although some of you may not relate, I believe getting advice or tips from others is always beneficial. Whether it’s tips on schoolwork, makeup, hairstyling, fashion, or anything else in which you need guidance, I hope to create new tips and tricks for you all and/or advice to follow. My goal is to provide a space where you can learn new things (not only about school) and ultimately where you can find advice/guidance to make life a little easier (or so I hope.) As the new school year kicks off, my first topic will regard self-consciousness and the constant care of what others think about you.
Self-consciousness is no light matter, as it seems to affect nearly everyone. From wondering if you’re pretty enough, smart enough, athletic enough, and in all just “good enough,” self-consciousness becomes incredibly draining. Constantly keeping the perception others may have of you in the back of your mind causes serious misery. We become reserved, scared of what others might think or say, and in a way shy: shy of others, shy of new things and opportunities, and in all shy of society altogether. Though it may seem letting loose is hard and challenging, it’s truly all about you, trusting yourself, all while staying true to who you are and shutting out the negativity others might bring.
If it seems no one else accepts you for who you are, I say accept yourself. Find and care for yourself. Self-perception is the only perception that matters. If you enjoy and accept who you are, no other opinion or judgment will affect you. Stand up against your insecurities, embrace every aspect of yourself, even when it’s hard. Self-confidence is key. If others see that you are content within yourself, what is there to judge? The perception of others serves to scare or worry you about their judgment— forget about their approval. Do things for yourself, inconsiderate of what others might have to say or think. I know, easier said than done, but truly finding happiness within yourself will allow prosperous beginnings and a newfound self-love. Enjoy who you are, allow others to see the happiness you hold within yourself, and at last, become unbothered by all pessimism.
