Cheers to a New Year

Ashley Matias Lopez, Reporter

It’s a new year and a great time for fresh beginnings and endless opportunities. A time to look back and reflect on moments that have shaped us throughout the previous year, and make resolutions to place us on the right path.

What are my new year’s goals/resolutions?

My goals and resolutions for the new year are to focus more on myself and quit procrastinating. This year I wish to make myself top priority and tune out any negativity. I want to stop being so hard on myself and learn to love who I am. I can do this by spending more time doing what I love and engaging in self care activities. A bad habit I would like to break this year is procrastinating on my school work. It has taken a toll on the quality of my work, and I consider it as one of my many bad qualities. It will definitely be a challenge but that’s what goals are all about.

What am I looking forward to the most once we are out of quarantine and why?

Once we are finally out of quarantine, I am looking forward to seeing my friends again. I haven’t seen them since the beginning of quarantine, and it’s been too long. I miss spending time with them and hearing all the laughter from the funny jokes they’d tell. They were the highlight of my boring day and would always cheer me up whenever I wasn’t in a good mood. I can’t wait to see them again once this is all over.

How am I going to manage my mental health in 2021?

Managing mental health can be done in many different ways and can also be very tough to do. The way I will manage my mental health this year is by surrounding myself with positive energy. I won’t let anything bring me down and avoid any negative overthinking. I will spend more time with my loved ones and try new hobbies that I can enjoy. Focusing on the positive can really help improve your view of things.

How did I overcome all of the challenges 2020 brought?

It’s no doubt that 2020 brought upon many challenges. Overcoming them was the hard part. I overcame those challenges by staying strong and not letting the little things get to me. I kept myself busy and tried my best to block out unnecessary problems. I struggled, but it all became worth it in the end.
