This year, a new teacher joined the SHS campus. It is Zachary Carousso’s first year teaching chemistry at Selma High. Mr. Carousso is excited to make chemistry engaging and intriguing for all students.
Mr. Carousso graduated from Fresno State, where he majored in biology and chemistry. His initial objective was to become a pharmacist, but college made him realize teaching was his passion. Throughout his time in college, he met many remarkable peers, gained valuable knowledge, and ultimately had a positive experience. Mr. Carousso previously worked at Reedley High School but transferred to Selma so he could be closer to his family. He shares that he is very family-oriented and rooted to them.
During his time at Selma High, Mr. Carousso expresses, “People are very kind and helpful.”
He has had numerous positive interactions with other chemistry teachers on campus, such as Mr. Norman, Ms. Pena, and Mr. Jones. Students of his describe him as motivating, respectful, and assertive.
“He wants his students to be successful,” sophomore Kirti Tohan stated.
“Mr. Carousso is very encouraging and supportive towards his class,” said another student, Gurvir Singh
When Mr. Carousso isn’t teaching, he enjoys participating in athletics and appreciates the outdoors.
“I like to go hiking,” expressed Mr. Carousso.
He either goes hiking alone or with family and friends. He also spends a lot of time in the gym, fueling his body with his favorite meals, and resting after a long day. He enjoys a vast variety of foods, from barbecue to Japanese food. All things considered, Selma High welcomes Mr. Carousso, and students can see him periodically in room 605.
