This year, Selma High is excited to welcome Mr. Wilcots, our new school psychologist and assistant football coach! He’s already made an impact not just in the classroom, but also out in the field with our football team.
Mr. Wilcots comes to Selma High with a wide range of different experiences. Two years ago, he worked at Abraham Lincoln Middle School and Roosevelt, then just last year, he worked at Wilson and Eric White Elementary School.
Mr. Wilcots attended a variety of different colleges such as Santa Barbara City College, Clovis Community College, JV Junior College, Virginia Union College, and Fresno State. While attending college he studied psychology and eventually earned his Master’s in School Psychology.
Teaching kids has always been Mr. Wilcot’s passion.
As a school psychologist, he helps out Selma High students in many ways. “I test kids’ cognitive ability, how your brain works,” he states. “I also do counseling, and I do behavior intervention.”
So far, his time at Selma High has been a blast and very respectable. “It’s very welcoming. I’ve enjoyed coaching football. It’s been a lot of fun,” he said.
He also mentions how he enjoyed working with Ms. Davis and the special education staff, who he described as “very welcoming”.
Outside of school, Mr. Wilcots stays active. “I keep myself pretty busy,” he adds. Besides assisting in the coaching of the Selma High football team, he works out in the gym, enjoys snowboarding, wakeboarding, playing video games, and also spending time with his two amazing puppies, Luka and Tate, who are both German Shepherd Belgian Malinois mix.
Starting at a new place like the high school, Mr. Wilcots’ teaching goal is simple, yet powerful:, “Do the best that I can do, and support all the students that need any support.”
When it comes to football, Coach Wilcots is proud of the team’s progress.
“The season has been good. We had three games, we’ve fought hard, and put in a good effort. We’re getting better each day,” he shares.
Lastly, he adds “Go Bears! Come out and watch us play football Friday nights!”
