With school ending soon, many students eagerly seek ways to make the most of their break from school. Consider making a full-time commitment and starting a part-time job to gain that extra money for summer fun!
To work at any job in California as a minor, you will need a work permit (this states that you’re eligible to work). To get this permit issued, talking to your class counselor or an administrator is the first step.
Here are some available part-time jobs in Selma that you might want to consider.
First up is Chipotle! On the Chipotle job description from the website, “ZipRecruiter,” the pay range is $15.50-$16.50 per hour. Working with Chipotle benefits such as tuition assistance (some coverage for select degrees or up to $5,250/year), free food (yes, really FREE), medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, and open opportunities for you to advance positions (80% of managers started as crew).
Denny’s is also a great place to work. They’re looking for responsibilities like taking food orders and keeping drinks filled, making sure guests’ meals and their experience is as perfect as possible, and serving guests with a warm friendly smile to be filled. According to “Indeed.com,” the pay range is from $9 to $22.
A sales associate job opening is available at Rue 21. According to their job description from the website, “ZipRecruiter,” they are looking for an upbeat, trendy, and stylish individual with great communication skills and who can relate to their customers. As a sales associate, you would be working part-time at an average hourly rate of about $10 an hour.
Another great option is Panda Express, looking for a team member. Benefits include flexible schedules, free meals while working at Panda, medical and dental insurance for full-time associates, 401K with company match, associate discounts for many brands, and starting pay range from $15-$25 per hour. Qualifications entail “employees must be able to work in a fast-paced work environment, have effective verbal communication skills, ability to adapt to a dynamic environment with changing priorities, and the ability to manage conflicts/difficult situations.”
Lastly, Taco Bell has openings! Responsibilities at Taco Bell consist of ensuring that a restaurant is a safe place for team members to work and customers to visit, demonstrating patience and a positive attitude while delegating tasks and giving instructions, working effectively and safely in a changing environment, communicating with management and fellow employees, to be capable of making quick and appropriate decisions and to take ownership and responsibility to solve problems. The pay at Taco Bell starts at $13 and depending on your performance, your pay may rise.
Taking a part-time job may be something to look forward to this summer. First and foremost, it provides financial benefits, and the opportunity to gain valuable work experience -even if the job is not in your desired career field it can still teach you important skills like time management. Taking a part-time job is the opportunity to network and make connections in your field of interest.
