Softball season has begun, and with that comes the competitive, hard-working girls who bleed orange and black.
The team has currently played at Fresno, and came out in first place going against Mt. Whitney.
Coach Tapia has been coaching the softball team for over 20 years. Before that, he coached baseball and football as well.
“One of my biggest strengths is my experience as a coach. I have been coaching for over 20 years and have had a ton of experiences that I have learned from. These experiences help drive important decisions,” explained Coach Tapia.
The team has started off a bit rough for the start, but are working hard to hold their ground as well as leave their mark in this new territory.
“So far, I think we’re starting out a bit rough, but as the season moves forward and the work gets put in, we’ll see more improvement,”explained sophomore Roxanne Flores.
Flores has been playing softball since she was only 6 years old, developing a love for the game.
The team takes two hours each day to practice, increasing their abilities.
With intense practices, focusing on the individual needs of each player, the team is getting ready for a great season.
“The first step to making any improvements is identifying the mistake. Once the mistake is identified our coaches rely on our years of experiences and toolbox of drills to help the player improve,”commented Coach Tapia.
The season has just taken off, but with a positive outlook for the rest of the year the team is already getting into a positive mindset. It takes a very determined, resilient player to actually take part in the game rather than just go through the motions.
“I have been improving on my hitting and batting techniques and catching up on stuff others have been doing for a while,” commented Sophomore Kennedi Carrasco.
“As a team we are very close and we have actually played really well together, so we have good chemistry and bond,” explained Carrasco.
A team so determined, committed, and whole-heartedly enjoyable of what they do, will bring pride to Selma. With the right maturity and class of the team, they want to strive for wins as a team.
The varsity softball team is putting it all in this season, paving the way to becoming Valley Champions.
