2020 Congressional Elections: The Fight For a Seat

Veronica Botros, Reporter

Along with electing the president of the United States, the country voted  for senators and members of the House of Representatives. The makeup of Congress is determined by the general election, with both parties needing a majority to control the House or the Senate.

The state of California has 53 congressional districts. Currently the Democratic Party has won 42 seats and the Republican Party has won 9 seats. District 21 as well as district 25 have not announced the official winner to represent in Congress.

Fresno County is a part of District 21 where republican David Valadao lost to democrat TJ Cox back in 2018. This time around this congressional election is as close as ever. As of November 17, 2020, David Valadao is now leading against TJ Cox. David Valadao has a vote count of 81,157 while TJ Cox has a vote count of 79,092.

District 21 comprises of  four counties: Kern, Fresno, Kings, and Tulare. Where Kern is reporting a total of 55, 376 votes, Fresno reporting 57,671, Kings with a total of 41,717, and Tulare with 5,485.

We still have yet to be informed of the results of District 21’s congressional election, but we do know that Valadao is currently leading Cox by  2065 votes.
