Baskin Robbins Review: Pumpkin Cheesecake

Ari Matias Perez and Chloe Mendoza

Everyone knows I am a picky eater.  I think it’s safe to assume that I’m not going to enjoy most of these flavors, of course, with some exceptions.  This month’s flavor, Pumpkin Cheesecake, is not one of those exceptions.  Chloe and I both agreed that cheesecake is not our favorite.  When I heard this was the flavor we were getting, I knew it wasn’t going to be for me.  However, I still tried to have an open mind about it (key word, tried).  Anyways, when I took my first spoon full, the two flavors clashed in my mouth one after the other.  At first, it wasn’t too bad.  Although, as I began savoring the ice cream, the cheesecake became overbearing.  It was extremely sweet and simply wasn’t my style.  The thing I actually enjoyed about this ice cream were the crumbs and bits of pumpkin pie (at least I think it was pumpkin pie).

Hey, maybe my pallet isn’t as evolved enough to enjoy this flavor.  Either way, I am going to have to give this flavor a 4/10.  Maybe I’m being too harsh and a bit over dramatic, but oh well, this is my review. -Ari

I walked into this taste test with expectations no higher than the head of my tiny shih-tzu, Layla.

I am no fan of cheesecake, so sue me if it pleases you. This was the sole reason for my apprehension, because cheese cake reminds me of childhood hospital visits and fevery nights caused by my early (severe) lactose intolerance. You could say I have a love-hate relationship with this certain dessert. However with the first bite, I was surprised by the strength of the pumpkin flavoring, and taken aback by the little chunks of crumb crust, which would be my favorite part of cheesecake (if I were to have one). I savored the cinnamon that accompanies all pumpkin flavoring, but cringed at the overall sweetness. It’s safe to say that the combined efforts of two seventeen year-olds were not enough to finish one scoop. Though my taste buds were not suited for this flavor, I found it was mostly tasty with a hint of surprise. October’s flavor of the month deserves a 5/10 in my book! I recommend trying it! -Chloe
