The 2020 presidential election is only weeks away. This year it has become more important than ever for voters to fulfill their civic duty of voting.

2020 has faced an unprecedented amount of obstacles ranging from the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic to the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, which has made it crucial for the American people to vote.

The American quality of life is on the line in this election. Many agree that womens’ rights, minority rights, and LGBTQIA rights are stake.

The results of the upcoming election will determine whether the next four years will be spent under the conservative Trump-Pence Administration or the progressive Biden-Harris Administration.

Regardless of political affiliations, it is of utmost importance to vote this year.

As this election is being held in the midst of a global pandemic, many voters have opted to vote via mail.

For those who wish to vote via mail, it is necessary that they are registered to vote. Voters may register at registertovote.ca.gov

All registered voters in California will receive a ballot no more than 29 days before the election.

After the ballot has been filled voters may choose to return the ballot either through mail or through a drop box.

Throughout Fresno county, there are 66 drop box locations. The designated drop box location for the town of Selma is at Noble Credit Union on Highland Avenue. The box is specifically located on the northeast corner of the building near the parking lot.

Ballots that are returned by mail must be postmarked by Election Day and must be collected by the county election office no later than 17 days after the election. Ballots that are returned to drop boxes must be delivered by 8:00pm on Election Day.

Be sure to sign your ballot correctly as election officials utilize envelope signatures as verification for ballots.

Additionally, you may check your ballot status by tracking it. The California Secretary of State has launched “Where’s My Ballot,”  which informs voters of the status of their ballot. Voters will be notified when their ballot has been received and counted. Voters may sign up at WheresMyBallot.sos.ca.gov.

The future of America lies in the hands of its people therefore be sure to vote and make sure your voice is heard.
