Ending With Rizz
By Kimberly Bojorquez
For my final Pelicans Review I tried an intriguing new flavor called “The Rizz,” inspired by eight-year-old Tik Tok star, “The Rizzler.” When I saw the vibrant blue snow cone I was confident I’d be punched in the face with bold flavors, but instead I was left confused. The closest flavor I could decipher was potentially a subtle hint of bubblegum, but beyond that no known flavor stuck out to me. That’s not to say it was bad, as I finished it within minutes, but I was slightly underwhelmed.
If the snow cone was a suitor trying to pick you up for a date, it’d probably give one decent pick up line and then for the rest of the night leave you with mixed signals. It was overall refreshing, but without its flashy name, it’s pretty plain. It’s the perfect treat for someone who prefers a more muted flavor. I’d give it a 5/10 and I recommend it to those who spend too much time brain rotting on TikTok.
Now, the time has finally come to pass on the Pelicans Review to the next Co-Editors-in-chiefs, Maya and Beth!
A Rizz-tastic Ending
By Yarektzy Navarro
The time has come where I finally go from being a Bear to being an Aggie, a.k.a. UC Davis. It was an interesting privilege to write to you guys about my tastings and contributing them to people or places. I hope they gave you a little giggle if not….. then your humor does not vibe with mine and that just means y’all are bland ( IM JOKING…maybe) Anyways, this visit was very special because we are introducing your new Co-Editors-in-chief, Beth and Maya! I know they will be very good at this job and on top of their stuff, as per always. I wish them a well rounded journey into this fun experience that they’re going to come upon.
For my last flavor, I picked a very interesting one that wasn’t my top choice, “The Rizz.” Honestly, I would think this would be maybe a green color but it was blue. Not any type of blue but a creamy blue that makes the snow cone look like ice cream and not even like shaved ice. After trying the first bite, it reminded me of those Mexican Paletas, the bubblegum ones. It just hit me with so much nostalgia but then… It reminded me of something else. You guys know I cannot leave without comparing it to something odd. So, I would say that this reminded me of Anakin and Padme’s relationship, before it went into the trenches of course. How their love was so soothing and calming just seeing these two individuals unite as one (LITERALLY love them, go watch Star Wars asap). I’m going to be honest, this honestly just reminds me of Anakin (Not because he’s my Star Wars crush of course…) , his bright blue eyes. Ok enough, honestly I really liked this flavor. As Kim said, it wasn’t too sweet which I love so I would rate this a 7/10.
I am going to miss having to come up with these funny comparisons, even though we all know I’m still going to compare things in the future.
Pelican’s Review
By Maya Grewal
I had the Butterbeer flavor, and it was wonderful! For those who’ve had the Butterbeer drink from Universal Studios, it tastes exactly like the real thing! For those who haven’t tried Butterbeer before: it’s a sweet vanilla flavored drink, which has sweet whipped cream on top. In the Pelican’s version, they put a layer of whipped cream inside of your snowcone. I’d give bonus points for putting more whipped cream on top! Overall, I would give the Butterbeer snowcone a 9/10. It’s the perfect treat for any Harry Potter lover!
Just Here for the Butterbeer
By Bethany Cazares
For my first-ever Pelican’s review, I initially wasn’t sure what to order, but as soon as I saw that there was a Butterbeer flavor, I knew that I had to get it. (I also ordered it with whipped cream.) I have never had the Butterbeer at Universal Studios before, so I didn’t know if my standards were supposed to be high. I was a little worried it would taste like a cider, but to my surprise, I can confidently say that this is one of my favorite orders at Pelican’s. The snow cone looked almost identical to an orange summer sunset. It tasted like vanilla, or similar to sherbet, but the whipped cream made it taste so much better. The flavor wasn’t overbearing, and it was really simple, yet it was so rich in flavor. I would recommend this snow cone to anyone who is a Harry Potter fan or is craving something that isn’t too sweet, but still delightful. I’d give this a rating of 8.5/10.
