Selma High School’s Junior Class hosted this year’s prom on May 10th, 2025. The dance was held at The Grand 1401, the same venue as last year. This year’s theme was “Enchantment on the Nile,” prompting Egyptian decor. Hieroglyphs were projected on the walls, cut outs of pyramids stood on their own, and there was a Sphinx next to the DJ.
On one side of the venue, there was a photobooth where guests could take pictures with their friends. On the other side was a table offering Sal’s platters and fruit cups. Besides this was the dessert table which held a variety of sweets. There was even a vendor selling agua frescas and churros.
On the next floor of the venue, there was a spot for students to take professional photos with either their date or their group of friends. The upstairs area of the venue also housed many activities for attendees besides dancing. There were card games, ping pong, and an NES Classic Edition setup for guests to engage with.
“I liked the theme and how the decorations tied into the theme well, and I liked the energy on the dance floor, ” Mia Balderas stated.
Prom King and Queen this year were determined by a voting process that took place at the dance in which attendees scanned a QR code and voted on their phone. This year’s King and Queen titles were given to Donovan Contreras and Kimberly Bojorquez. The two shared a dance together to “Sparks” by Coldplay, garnering much attention and applause.
“Thank you to my supporters. I appreciate it so much. It felt swagalicious. It felt hype,” Donovan Contreras, Prom King, noted.
Along with Donovan and Kimberly, this year’s prom Prince and Princess titles were given to Cassius Sesate and Adrina Garcia.
This year, the prom organizers decided on choosing to not serve full meals, and instead offered finger foods and desserts in order to leave the opportunity for guests to go out either before or after the dance for whatever food they choose.
As the night came to a close, and guests began to leave, the end of prom checked off another box for the juniors and seniors. The juniors look forward to their senior year, and their final prom, while seniors look forward to what the future holds, keeping these memories in mind as they move forward
