The Selma High boys’ volleyball team has demonstrated profound determination in performing to the best of their abilities and building themselves off the court this season. With a final record of 5-14, this season has helped the team focus on persevering through losses and grow as a team.
Senior Raul Huerta plays left back on the court and acknowledges this year’s season as one with highs and lows.
“Overall, it’s been a tough season when it comes to games,” Huerta claims, “but the team bonding is there for sure.”
Although the team hasn’t faced the outcomes they’ve been searching for, their consistency and hard work are bound to pay off in future seasons.
As the season has progressed, Coach Ly explains that the team has exemplified significant growth since the beginning of the season.
“While I’m proud of their overall performance, both the players and I believe our final record doesn’t fully reflect our true potential,” Coach Ly said.
He also mentions there is a sense of motivation and determination for Selma’s boys’ volleyball team to come back even stronger.
Aside from the disappointment of not being able to make a playoff appearance this year, the relationships built this season are something that this team takes pride in. Ricardo Davalos, another senior who plays right-side hitter, expresses that their team chemistry has been amazing throughout the season.
“The guys are always helping each other get better and learn from each other. Even off the court, we occasionally gather up and go someplace to get a quick meal,” Davalos corroborates the importance of developing strong bonds on and off the court.
After playing to their strongest ability on their senior night, April 29th, Huerta and Davalos both agree that there have been many games with exciting moments they’ll forever cherish. Although they faced a tough loss on their senior night, with a score of 0-3, they describe their final season as an amazing experience with team chemistry that makes them feel proud to be a part of this team.
With their dedication and passion for the game, the Selma High boys’ volleyball team is on track to have an even more successful season next year. Especially with Coach Ly’s determination to come back stronger and his resilient mindset, it is easy to say we are expecting plenty of wins for Selma High next year.
Coach Ly offers his finest advice to any of those wishing to be a part of the great Selma Boys’ Volleyball team for the 2026 season. “Just go for it. Be open to learning, stay coachable, and maintain a positive attitude.”
