Capturing vibrant inspiration from the yearly music festival Coachella, Selma High held its annual spring rally as “Bearchella.”
During the Bearchella rally, they had a variety of exciting performances. The winter percussion performed their show, “Midnight Sun, Endless Night,” along with Selma High’s winter guard’s beautiful performance, “Unconditional.”
Los Paisanos killed it with their Jalisco style performance and riled up the crowd with their fiery dance moves. They performed for a total of ten minutes and effortlessly had a smile on their faces throughout the performance.
In honor of “BearDayz,” each competing group formulated a thirty-second lip sync routine and performed it in front of our school with the hopes of taking the winning title. There were a total of nine teams: Band of Bears, Bear Cubs, Big Ballaz, Cadets y Paisanos, Clar-Bears, Hiking Club, The Big Booms, The Game Changers, The Unstoppables, and this year’s winners Caniac Combo!
Senior Michael Apolinar who was a member of the winning team, Caniac Combo, stated what was his most memorable part of being able to participate in the rally.
“One of the greatest times I had during the Bear Dayz competition was the lip sync battle. It was awesome collaborating with my group and creating a performance that everybody was able to enjoy during the rally,” stated Apolinar.
Theatre also provided us with a quick scene of their upcoming play “Zombie Prom.” They displayed their amazing singing abilities accompanied by their coordinated dance moves.
Cheer performed their exciting dance routine, effortlessly displaying their high energy with every dance move, as well as making the stunts seem flawless.
With all the great performances displayed in the rally, this wouldn’t have been possible without leadership’s hard work and effort into hosting an amazing rally.
A member of leadership, senior Alyssa Salazar explained how getting feedback from staff and students is what she believes is the best outcome out of the rally. Through this, leadership is able to get constructive feedback on what they can improve on as well as getting praised for how well students become involved.
“Getting feedback from students saying they enjoyed our event is the best part, especially because every event we do is for them,” stated Salazar.
Seeing their hard work come together as they set up the rally is one of Salazar’s favorite parts of doing them. Salazar stated, “I loved seeing everyone’s performances, our decorations, and especially the reactions and crowd involvement.”
Overall, this year’s Bearchella was a huge success and one to be remembered!
