Beyond a Rose
By Maya Grewal
Through life the rose blossoms
Each petal a chapter
From a bud to a bloom
The flower lives through you
Each thorn a flaw
The soil a home
In sun we grow
Shadows we sleep
The seeds we plant
To start our descent
From red to white
Our kin takes flight
In time we settle
Our stems stop growing
But colors still showing
The years are numbered
And soon we wither
Petals are falling
Winter is calling
Wrinkles we gather
So as you gaze
On a rose you praise
Remember the life
Beyond the cover
