Although the phrase “Nobody is perfect” is not commonly said to me, this is a belief many people around me hold. Society has become obsessed with the thought of being perfect that we have forgotten how to be human. There are standards placed on everyone, how they should act, dress, what they should believe, and so much more. That’s why this saying has become so popular. It’s transformed into a sense of comfort to all, but I’d like to propose a different opinion.
Perfection is attainable.
Everybody has the possibility to be perfect, at least in somebody else’s eyes. This is possible because of love, whether that love be platonic or romantic. Love can be shown in an infinite number of ways, whether that be patience, kindness, admiration, selflessness, loyalty, etc. Everybody has the capability to love and to be loved.
Being perfect doesn’t mean entirely having no flaws, but rather having someone who will embrace all of them and adore you for them. Someone who will view you as the most special person to ever exist, who will stick with you even when you don’t want them to. Love is a beautiful thing that cannot be comprehended through words, but only through experience.
Being loved properly teaches you that it’s okay to love yourself. That every mistake you make is only an opportunity to learn, and every insecurity you have is something to embrace, not hide. Everybody has their problems, issues that constantly take over their minds and cloud it with darkness, but even if it’s for a split second, love can take all negative feelings away.
Being loved unconditionally doesn’t mean that you’ll always be happy. Neither does it mean that both of you will be kind to each other at all times. It’s the idea that even in those moments, you will still be cared for. There’s a need for sadness in every relationship, and although it may be uncomfortable, it only brings people closer together when handled appropriately.
To whomever is reading this, even if you do not believe it, there is somebody out there who will love you for you, entirely. Somebody who will value you, prioritize you, and put all their efforts towards you. There’s no reason to change anything about yourself to fit in, for one day, you will find someone who appreciates everything you nit-pick about yourself. There will be hundreds of people that love you throughout your lifetime, some that you currently know and others that you will meet later on in life. Even while knowing this, I still believe that everybody has someone who was specifically meant for them, and who will teach them what love truly is. So, don’t settle for less. Find your “perfect” person.
