Tiktok has become a platform full of diversities in every way and form. Trends are a big aspect of this media, however aesthetics can’t be an exception to what makes Tiktok one of the most intriguing apps in the world. As the years passed, we’ve seen the resurfacing of different aesthetics, from the Lululemon/Clean Girls that has made an influence on most teenagers, to the 50s fanatics who live in a time capsule. However in many “For You Pages,” including mine, some of the most recent famous comebacks of aesthetics that have been resurfacing have been primarily Western, Old Money, and Chicano.
The Western aesthetic has created a dust storm within TikTok, blending old rustic styles with a hint of modern beauty. Many creators have been embracing this unique aesthetic through homestyle, fashion takes with a twist of their own personality, and most of all music. To begin with, men are going back to the 80s mullet with the thick “cowboy” mustache that enhances their masculinity. They combine this with usually tight pair of Wrangler or Levis jeans while using boots. Yet they can’t miss the breathtaking traditional Cowboy hats to go with their outfit. However, they also embrace this aesthetic with their lifestyle of having a bigggggg truck and blasting Country music varying from Luke Bryan (my favorite, I’m seeing him again in May.YAY!) Morgan Wallens, Zac Bryan, and sometimes classics such as Brooks & Dunn.
With the women, they use the same accessories such as boots and cowboy hats however to make their outfit pop they will pair it with a vest that flashes a Wild West vibe. Girls tend to purchase house items that will have either cowboy boots all over it or a saying such as “Boots & Boys” (I made it up. Don’t judge me). Yet rodeos are a big trend with this lifestyle, being able to embrace their American culture with such a fun event that creates unity within each other.
Money takes over the TikTok world. Old Money has made a unique reappearance as newer generations have taken this sophisticated lifestyle as their own. With both men and women, Old Money consists of them wearing the traditional solid colors being beige and black. Men will use polo shirts with a rich material, usually pairing every single outfit with dark shades to seem cool (let’s be real, they aren’t). They will also use loafer shoes or nice dress up shoes, however this isn’t what makes their outfit traditional. It’s the haircut, seeing guys going for the Leonardo Dicaprio middle part pushed back cut that enhances their facial features. Their lifestyles consist of going to bookstores, which is one of the most popular or going to museums to act “mysterious” as if they were in their own little bubble. However, I will say I only have been seeing this esthetic on men right after the famous The Menendez Brothers show that was released. We can see the influence one picks up quickly based on the media spread, especially after all the edits of the brothers’ lifestyle going around the app and how women would melt for them.
Women are dressed in dress up pants, paired with gold jewelry and some type of fancy coat. They also walk their way into nice department stores in their expensive clean heels or flats. Women typically use knit tops that are sophisticated yet fun at the same time. Both genders show them living in a clean house, demonstrating their living routines almost always having some type of complicated workout plan. They also have very clear skin that is honestly really impressive. Clearly I would never be able to live a lifestyle without me having to mess something up. Yet with these aesthetics there can be pros and cons. One is that because they live a fancy life, the incorrect interpretation of their personalities can bring hate upon them. Many will think the content creator is full of themselves just because they have a high end lifestyle, which I will say isn’t fair for the creator because sometimes they are the sweetest people ever.
Taking a trip to the past, the traditional Chicano aesthetic has been growing more and more nowadays. Individuals embracing this lifestyle are so proudly open with their representations of their nationality, showing their strengths and roots in many different ways. Men are enhancing this aesthetic by wearing their hair gelled back with fishnets or the traditional fedora that will match their outfit, a throwback to how most would wear in the early 90s. Men and Women are seen using Dickys pants being the usual color black or beige. They also tend to use plaid shirts, men buttoning up all the way and women having it open with an undershirt. Women tend to pair their outfits with hoop earrings, dark lipliner, and even a bandana across their head. Chicanos also embrace their aesthetic by hosting many throwback dances, showcasing many nostalgic songs that bring each and every one to enjoy the old times. They aren’t afraid to stand up for themselves or their roots, being one of the toughest and most impressive aesthetics to come across the page.
Out of all of the styles, I love Western only because I’m a country fan and it’s come to a point where I can’t stop going to country concerts (it’s so bad, send help lol) and because I find the outfits to be so cute. I usually get my inspirations for decoration and styling from them so thank you! However seeing that many are getting Johnny Depp and Dicaprio’s Haircut in order to complete the aesthetic for Old Money does make them more attractive rather than the Edgar Cut (I said it, it’s not attractive guys).
