Social Media is a major element of today’s world, where almost everyone is online, browsing, chatting, posting, and discovering. With this mainstream activity, many topics find popularity and begin trends. So, what exactly is the best trend out there? What you should consider being on your list of favorites: skits. Skits are fun and entertaining, captivating the viewers of many media users.
Well, what even are skits? Skits are (usually short-formed) videos where creators act out scenes and create interesting stories for their audience. They can be in many different genres; some being comedic, others dramatized, and some even pointing out societal flaws or detailing on political standpoints. Each skit is unique and has its own topic and style to it.
But who actually makes skits? There’s tons of content creators who do! Some of the top skit-makers (on Tiktok) are Melissa Shoshahi, Jessica Vanel, Shawna Lander, Leilani, Tony Talks, Lourd, and American High Shorts.
Melissa Shoshahi (@melshoshahi) is a creator that makes comedic skits, which demonstrates a multitude of customer service helpers dealing with harsh customers, ranging from Starbucks baristas to airline attendants. Jessica Vanel (@jessicavanel) is a skit-maker who also creates customer service skits, usually with front desk workers.
Shawna Lander (@shawnathemom) is a content creator who makes family drama skits, outlining the dangers of abusive family members, (whether physical, mental, or emotional) and the importance of setting boundaries in all relationships with others. She also highlights the significance of celebrating the good people in your life and cherishing those who lift you up. Leilani (@lovelyleilani24) creates skits over teenage life and family drama. She, like Lander, details the dangers of abusive families and being grateful for the good ones. However, she expands on the struggles of many teenagers and creates relatable skits of which expand on academic strain, romantic struggle, or mental pressure.
Tony Talks (@officiallytonytalks) is a skit-maker who makes a variety of comedic and dramatic skits. From work environments, to family drama, relatable events, or just something fun, silly and creative. Lourd (@lourdasprec) is a content creator who makes dramatic and comedic skits, revolving around friend drama and school life. He also makes many of his skits very relatable, leaving his audience laughing or cringing knowing they’ve felt the same way, or they know someone like his characters.
Finally, American High Shorts (@americanhighshorts) is a group of creators who make comedic skits, mainly on the topic of school, but also your average relatable skit that’ll make you cry laughing. What sets this creator apart from the rest is that they have not just one person acting out each character, but a whole cast of friends who put together their skits, making their creations much more unique and intriguing to viewers.
Can I make skits? Of course you can! There are no rules to creativity and putting together something fun. All it takes is a camera, (yes, your phone works perfectly) a cast (you can gather some friends or get creative and play all the parts), and a bit of imagination! You never know what your work can do for others; it can strike passion or inspiration to many. Make memories and show off your skills to others– your creativity can change the world!
