The Selma High Varsity Football team currently has a 5-3 record. After losing the Homecoming game against Immanuel High School on October 4th, the team recovered by winning the away game against Sierra Pacific on October 18th with a score of 22-14. Senior night against Exeter, with their record of 6-2, will be played on October 25 (after paper has gone to press).
In honor of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Selma High Leadership presented a “pink out” game. Everyone attending the game is encouraged to wear pink to stand up against breast cancer.
Following senior night is the rivalry game against Kingsburg on November 1.
“I feel like both teams hate each other,” said Eric Vega, a junior on the team. “It’ll be a good game.”
The team clinched a spot in playoffs as well. Senior Jordan Alvarado explained it’ll be a new experience, considering how long it’s been since the team made it to playoffs.
“The highlight of our season is definitely getting to playoffs,” quoted quarterback and senior Aaron Ramirez. “We haven’t done that in a while and, with the special group that we have, I think we can make a deep run in the playoffs.”
The Selma Bears have high hopes for the playoff game coming up on November 8th.
The Black Bear Brigade, Selma High Varsity Cheer and a “rooter” bus for students will be joining the boys on the road.
“Go Bears!” added Jordan Alvarado.
