Selma High School proudly announces Ashley Valdenegro as our new staff member. She plays a key role in the office. She takes tardy slips and doctors’ notes from students in the front office. She is now eager to inspire and guide students by navigating us on their journey throughout high school. Ashley Valdena is a young caring woman who comes from a big family. She absolutely adores her parents and her three siblings. She is married and has a baby that just turned one in August.
“I love my family,” said Mrs.Valdenegro.
She has many interests and passions outside of Selma High, such as enjoying her family’s company, shopping, and going to church. She is also very passionate about her relationship with God.
Without a doubt she recommends going to college, she knows it’s not for everyone because she once attended college herself. She attended Fresno City College for two years but she has been disengaged for a bit. She does want to return and pursue being a school counselor or social worker.
Valdena decided to reunite with her past and return to Selma. She was raised here and spent her formative years attending Selma High School. She graduated in 2020, so she felt like she never got that closure from her job due to Covid-19. She always preferred to work locally, especially at a school she attended.
“I feel like it’s a better fit and I feel very welcomed,” said Mrs.Valdenegro.
Valdenegro did not specifically choose working in the educational field at first, but she did want to go into the field of working with students.
“When you’re experiencing the field of it you might realize that it’s not for you,” said Mrs.Valdenegro.
Her plans for her students are just simply to be there for them.
“I’m the first person they see when they walk in, whether they have a doctor’s note or tardy. I just want them to know that I’m here for them and their needs,” expressed Mrs.Valdenegro.
Her experience at Selma High School has started with strong beginnings. Everybody has been very kind to her, and the staff makes her feel comfortable and welcome.
“You just easily fit in and nobody makes you feel left out,” said Mrs.Valdenegro.
She eagerly anticipates seeing students change to some extent.
“I know students come in late and are having a start to a rough day, to students not having the best school year. I’m just excited to see them change and do better,” said Mrs.Valdenegro.
Valdenegro’s long-term goal is to see students progress and succeed for a brighter future. She proposes that the most challenging part about working at SHS is the amount of students swarming at her.
“Five to ten students just come walking in saying ‘I’m tardy, I’m tardy.’ It gets overwhelming sometimes. They all come running in all at once,” explained Mrs.Valdenegro.
From this point forward, Ashley Valdenegro cannot wait to create new friendships and bonds with other staff members and students. She is willing to lend a helping hand at any time, she continuously says she is just here to support her students.
