As September 28th approached, all the planning and preparations for the Homecoming Dance were about to pay off. This night was the start of a week filled with activities and fun for the whole school to participate in. It was truly a thrilling night that a big amount of effort was put into.
“The best part about planning homecoming for me is being able to put something on for the entire school,” said senior Gianna Montoya.
Homecoming is such an important part of High School where many fun and exciting memories take place, especially on this beautiful night. It brings many together so they can take a night to look their best, be with their friends, relax, and enjoy their time here at Selma High School. It especially acts as an escape from the stress of school, showing why preparations took place very early on by leadership because of the hectic schedule. This made it easier to map everything out a few weeks before homecoming commenced as the foundation had already been laid down for the year.
“We have meetings over the summer to plan the year in advance because time goes by really fast,” expressed Gianna.
Leadership had a big role to play in the night of the Grammys. With their organized planning and their motivation to overcome any challenges, they were able to create a night where everyone can show up to just have a good time alongside them and their staff. Without our leadership staff, which includes the advisors, there wouldn’t be such privileges within Selma High School.
“This year’s ASB seniors were extremely independent and hard-working,” said senior class advisor Ms. Luviano.
The seniors in leadership took their time making sure everyone walking the red-carpet that night would not be disappointed with the help of their advisors, Ms. Loving and Ms. Luviano. They saw how the seniors took charge with everything they had in their possession, making it all planned out. Their advisor’s main job was just for them to be there to support the seniors as they let their creativity shine.
“Since the Homecoming 2024 theme was ‘Oskie on Aux,’ the senior class officers decided that a music-related theme would work best for the dance itself,” said Ms. Luviano.
Of course, the night wouldn’t be complete without a DJ. Leadership decided with a majority that Kayden Berry would be the DJ for the 2024 Homecoming dance, making it his job to create the fun and exciting atmosphere for the dance. He took charge, and surely did not disappoint.
“He ended up doing a great job and had people on the dance floor the entire night,” mentioned Ms. Luviano.
As a whole, there was essentially a lot of teamwork done for the night of the Grammys as students handled decorating and planning, and advisors handled major parts such as catering and essentials. Compared to last year’s homecoming, for Selma High’s 2024 homecoming there were over sixty more tickets sold to students. Making this a big night that lived up to everyone’s expectations, and making all staff and students proud of the hard work put into this memorable red carpet night!
