After serving five years at ALMS, Paul Frost joins the Selma High School team. Frost has been teaching for 17 years across multiple districts. These last four years Frost has found himself at ALMS, working with special needs kids. This is his first year at Selma High and his first year at a high school. He states that the staff and students are a highlight as the staff are very helpful and supportive and the students are very respectful.
Born in Cincinnati Ohio, Frost moved to California in the ‘80s when he was a child. From a young age, he had a keen interest for the arts and he still tries to be creative when he has the chance.
“Every so often, you’ll see me doodling and drawing,” Frost stated.
Frost graduated high school at Fresno High and went into the marines directly after. He learned a lot during his time in the marines and when he was done with his service, Frost pursued his artistic interests in the commercial screen printing field. He worked for several companies during this time, doing jobs that utilized his graphic design talents. Despite his love for the craft, he had to quit his job as it couldn’t support the future family that he wanted to start. Inspired by his family members who are prominent teachers, Frost decided to pursue his teaching career at Fresno State. He had always been interested in working with special education students so that’s what he intended to pursue.
He’s been teaching for 17 years since, working at both elementary schools and middle schools. His first year was in the Fresno Unified School District and he coached a boys’ volleyball team. His team went undefeated and they were city champions that year. His interest in volleyball stems back to when he was a high school student where he played on his school’s team. He continued playing into his adult years and played multiple tournaments in the AVP (Association for Volleyball Professionals).
“If you get to 17th place you win money and when you win money you are considered a professional. I made it to 17th place one time… I can technically call myself a professional athlete,” Frost Explained.
Since joining the Selma Unified School District, Frost has nothing but good things to say about his experiences. He’s hoping to stay for at least another five years but his plan is to hopefully move back east around the Massachusetts area with his wife as that’s where he’s from and he has family there.
“I love history… and I’m a little bit of a Red Sox fan,” Frost said.
As for now though, Frost loves it at Selma High and is grateful for all the support as he learns to adapt to his new high school teaching environment.
