Selma High School is continuing to expand its family with the addition of new staff members. One of their newest members is the new Administrative Assistant and Principal Secretary, Maria Sanchez. Previously, Ms. Sanchez worked in the insurance field as well as the optometry field for 13 years. At the moment, Ms. Sanchez also works as a part-time realtor. She had been on the lookout to work for an administrative position at a school and ended up finding the perfect position at Selma High.
Since it’s Ms. Sanchez’s first year of working at Selma High, she is looking forward to meeting all the staff members as well as getting to know them a bit better. She’s focusing on how to make this position feel comfortable for her as she’s replacing someone who has worked in this position for more than 15 years. Ms. Sanchez enjoys her time working in a small town like Selma. Working in a smaller area allows the time to create tighter bonds with staff members and the chance to get to know everyone personally.
“I like the small country feel of small schools like this. I came from Washington High School and I loved that feeling,” expressed Ms. Sanchez.
Ms. Sanchez’s best part about working at Selma High has been the people she gets to work along with. She has felt welcomed and accepted by all the staff members in her new place.
“Everyone has been so kind and helpful, they’ll come in and say hi and offer their help even if they don’t know how to help me, but are still willing to help,” shared Ms. Sanchez.
The hardest part about Ms. Sanchez’s job is learning how to maintain deadlines while adjusting to a position that requires her to memorize and store lots of things in your brain to efficiently get things done. Ms. Sanchez has a lot to learn which can be especially difficult in a brand-new environment.
Outside of her job, Ms. Sanchez is a mother of two and spends most of her time taking her kids to sports and other school activities. Right now, she’s looking forward to working and learning about all the different aspects of her new job and taking in as much as she can at this new school.
