A new addition to the student office is Maria Contreras. She is Selma High’s new Secretary.
Outside of work, Maria enjoys hiking and exploring new places with family and friends.
With her parents being of Mexican origin, Maria and her three siblings were raised for most of their lives in Fresno County, California. She attended Fresno City College, a two-year community college that offers a variety of education opportunities in the Central Valley.
“Sticking close to home was the goal and Selma is right next door,” Contreras stated.
Selma High School seemed to check all the right boxes for her for a place to work.
“I chose this job because I wanted to be a part of something great and Bear Nation seemed like an excellent fit,” she said.
So far, Contreras commends her experience at Selma.
“My experience here at Selma has been more than I expected,” she adds. “Everyone treats each other quite friendly, with respect and integrity.”
She notes that the staff have all been very welcoming. Even though she is a new staff member, she has begun to feel quite at home in Bear Nation.
“My plans for the school year are to learn from you all and help our school become even greater,” Contreras said.
Ms. Contreras is interested in our school’s culture and learning more about everyone.
“Getting to be familiar with everyone can be challenging,” Contreras says, “being that there is a large quantity of staff and students.”
However, Contreras is happy to have made the decision to come to Selma High School.
“The best part about working here at Selma High has been the environment and the team. There’s always positivity. Everyone always greets each other and are always quick to help a mate in-need. I’d say I have an excellent team,” Contreras said.
