This school year, Selma High School is welcoming many new things, such as students, teachers, and administrative staff. There is also the addition of new classes, such as Punjabi Class.
For the past years, the only foreign language class being offered at Selma High was Spanish. As one of the A-G Requirements, it’s extremely important that students take two years of a foreign language at minimum. Punjabi is a new language class and is beneficial for all students, as it gives them more options.
“It can help students build a deeper connection with people and see other parts of the world by learning Punjabi,” the Punjabi teacher, Mrs. Kaur states.
The class welcomes all beginners, including students who may be scared to try something new, as the basics are taught first. The beginning days are spent learning the Punjabi alphabets, until students get accustomed to it, then they are taught how to form short words.
Lessons are taught through little assignments, such as quizzes, flashcards, videos, and other media. This ensures that all students participate and understand the material. The class is filled with a positive atmosphere, as all students are praised for every accomplishment, including the small ones.
The class consists of few students, which is great for people who enjoy smaller environments. If a student is struggling, it is easier for the teacher to explain the subject to them in a way they understand, as they’ll have more time separately.
Overall, Punjabi Class will bring lots of benefits to Selma High School, and all students should consider taking it.
