The College and Career Fair hosted here at Selma High presented a variety of pathways that caught the attention of plenty of students. There were many stations that previewed the amazing opportunities many students here at Selma High are more than capable of pursuing.
There were 45 vendors and over 600 students present at this knowledgeable event. Lots of colleges such as GCU, Reedley Community College, Fresno State, Fresno City, and Fresno Pacific had lots of information to share and questions to answer.
Aside from colleges, many career pathways also promoted the opportunities they had to offer, such as cosmetology, nursing, physical therapy, the army, park-ranging, agricultural-based jobs, HVAC, etc.
“I felt it was different having it in the daytime because we normally have this event in the evening. I was happy that students who normally don’t come, or can’t stay late for whatever reason, were able to have their teachers sign up and take them. We hope to get more vendors, such as businesses and colleges, to come out for next year.” States SHS Counselor, Ms. Vasquez who coordinated this successful event.
AVID and VROP teachers successfully promoted college and career preparedness to inspire students to get ready for their plans after high school.
“My favorite part about our college and career fair was seeing all the different career options and being able to ask questions,” said senior Marisol Rocha.
Our AVID classes here at Selma High researched a variety of colleges and presented their boards to fellow students.
“Presenting my researched college with AVID was great because I was able to be a part of the College and Career Fair while also exploring paths for myself,” added senior Michael Apolinar.
This event was a great opportunity to tour the various colleges, career pathways, and support programs offered nearby.
