Selma High’s annual Club Rush took place on September 6th, 2024. The event was led with the help of both teachers and students. The clubs that took place during Club Rush were California Scholarship Federation, Key Club, Theatre Production/Drama Club, Punjabi Club, Card Club, Debate Club, Book Club, Los Latinos, Red Cross Club, Book Buddies, Feminist Forward, Friday Night Live, Hiking Club, Skills USA, MCJROTC, Gym Club, Golf Club, Robotics, Film Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Thinking Ahead, SHS After School Program, and Bible Club.
One club that is being newly introduced to our school is the Film Club, run by Brayden Brumm and Ariel Hernandez and advised by Mr. Castle and Ms. Plascencia. This club consists of gathering together with your peers, watching films, and reviewing them. With the help of Mr. Castle, Ms. Plascencia, Ariel and Brayden were able to bring this idea to life and share their love of film with the students of SHS.
“Brayden Brumm and Ariel Hernandez had the idea to start the Film Club, and as one of the advisers, I’m excited to watch their creativity and energy bring this club to life,” said Mr Castle.
Another club that to introduce is the Golf Club, which is run by Mr. Pena. The significance of the golf club extends “beyond the fairways and greens.” This club acts as a center of social engagement where members are able to build lasting friendships, network with like-minded individuals, and partake in various events that strengthen community bonds. The golf club is essential when promoting the sport’s values of etiquette, respect, and perseverance, which is exactly what the club is aimed to do, other than playing golf. One of this club’s greatest strengths is their social aspect. Members of this club will learn to value the chance to connect with others, share stories, and build relationships, all while enjoying the game they love.
“Golf clubs are the beating heart of the sport, where every swing, every putt, and every conversation contributes to a vibrant, dynamic community,” said Mr. Pena. “Joining a golf club is like becoming part of an exclusive family where every member shares a passion for golf and the finer things in life.”
Another club that was recently developed is the Red Cross Club, led by Alyssa Salazar. The Red Cross Club is especially special, solely because it is a club that focuses on the well being of our community. The significance of this club is for high schoolers to get more involved in the city. The members of the Red Cross Club aim to start blood drives, community cleanups, church involvement, etc. They plan to do a blood drive in the next coming months. Doing so will allow people in need to receive blood that can have an amazing impact on their life.
“We are proud to help those in need. Just donating blood can help save so many lives,” said Alyssa “This club is important because it helps students get interactive with their community and their peers.”
Selma High has not only presented clubs that have thrived throughout these years, but also new clubs that allow SHS students to discover and passionately live out their interests. There is no limit to the diversity seen at SHS, whether it be the community or the opportunities we have to offer. Club Rush is held in order for students to come to school and have an activity to look forward to, and Selma High will continue to work diligently to give students the best possible outcome of the year.
