From March 18th to the 20th, eight student teams faced off in a basketball tournament for the March Madness event planned by leadership.
“It was a great experience, and [it] took great preparation. [It] helped everyone who put up this [event] grow as a leader,” expressed freshman Carson Maldonado.
The leadership team worked together to run a smooth event to help students come out and cheer for their basketball champs.
“The best part of the event was watching OD Buckets and RICO have fun in the championship game and seeing how many people we got to show up and watch the event,” shared junior Daviana Chavez.
OD Buckets faced RICO in the championship final to see who would claim the March Madness 2024 Trophy, with OD Buckets coming out on top. The winning team consisted of juniors Jeremiah Posada, Aaron Ramirez, Isaiah Ochoa, sophomore Ben Menchaca, and freshman Abram Arcos, all of them thrilled to take home the trophy.
Captain of OD Buckets, Jeremiah Posada, has played in March Madness since his freshman year and was excited to see the team’s hard work pay off.
“My favorite part was going into the championship and winning it,” stated Posada.
Drew Cerda, a senior participating in March Madness for the second time, appreciated the social aspects of the event. Cerda enjoyed the change in playing with teammates that he is not used to playing with, and seeing their team’s improvement throughout the competition.
“My favorite part about March Madness was being able to create the team with my friends, and being able to bond with them through [the event],” said Cerda.
The teams all played diligently, and with the crowd cheering them on, the event organizers were proud of how the event went along till the end.
“I’m extremely excited for next year and the changes we’ll be making to make it more competitive and interesting,” commented Chavez.
March Madness was a big success at the school, for both the players, audience, and arrangers.
“If I wasn’t graduating [this] year I would [participate again],” said Cerda, recommending others to participate too. “Do March Madness, I think it’s a really good thing!”
