Be honest, who expected me to write about Ninja Turtles? While I admit that I would love to be a part of the Rise universe, there are also many other shows that I absolutely adore and would love to be a part of.
I managed to narrow it down to anime, then narrowed it down further to either The Apothecary Diaries or Kamisama Kiss. And seeing that Kamisama Kiss is my most recent comfort anime, it easily won.
What would I do in that universe? Befriend Nanami Momozono and be her voice of reason. She obviously has a lot going on with the whole ‘High school student turned land god who is in love with her familiar, Tomoe.’ Also, she just seems like a really great person, she’s easily one of my favorite characters.
There would have to be some incident where I was exposed to the ‘supernatural’ part of her new world and stubbornly demand an explanation. By some miracle, I would be allowed to hang around Mikage shrine and gain the sight needed to view the other world. After that, it’s dealing with heartbreak and the occasional vengeful deity.
I won’t lie, I would be the worst possible voice of reason. Oh, Nanami almost fell to her death because she refused to let Tomoe touch her after he rejected her? You are so valid for that girl, don’t worry.
I would probably be the character left behind to deal with the consequences of some major thing that Nanami and Tomoe would have to deal with. Which is perfectly okay because I am in no way equipped to deal with dangerous villains. In any case, I would probably be left behind with Mizuki (Nanami’s other familiar, I adore him) and the shrine spirits, Onikiri and Kotesu. Mizuki would probably try to follow Nanami and the shrine spirits can’t really do much so it’s a doomed plan either way.
Really random and possibly (very) ridiculous, but I would like to befriend Tomoe’s fox fires. Tomoe himself would probably hate me, or at the very least barely tolerate me, but his fox fires are surprisingly fun characters despite being literal balls of blue fire that rarely make an appearance. They have their own voices and personalities. You would think their voices would be solemn and deferent to their master but they literally just sound like co-workers discussing their lives next to the water cooler.
Unfortunately, I have yet to see season two or the OVAs because Hulu is allergic to joy and happiness, but I do know what happens at the very end, all I’ll say is I wouldn’t miss that for anything. (Update: I found a way…watching season two as I speak (type).)
