The girls basketball season came to an end on February 14. Their game against Roosevelt High School would mark the end of the season after losing 55-29.
Coach Alvarez stated that in their last game, the team faced a lot of pressure given that their goal was to win league.
“I think that pressure may have been a little bit too much for us. We did start the game off a little bit slow and I think that’s what changed the moment of the game,” stated Alvarez.
Senior, Isha Panu explained that it was especially difficult to see the outcome of the game since she was flooded with memories she had made with her senior teammates.
“I grew up playing with most of my teammates so knowing that our last game was the last moment we shared together on the court was sad,” recalled Panu.
Jenna Gonzalez commented that it was a memorable experience to play along with the seniors and voiced her appreciation to them.
“I had so much fun playing with them all throughout the years in high school,” mentioned Gonzales.
Gonzales added that they were a fundamental part of the team since, “they were always there to motivate us to be better about everything and support us, even when we didn’t really believe in ourselves.”
Coach Alvarez stated that unfortunately things didn’t always go as expected, but they chose to have a positive outlook regardless of possible obstacles.
“Throughout the season we just tried to find joy in the little things. [We tried to] enjoy the time that we had with our seniors, and make the most out of the time that we did have together.” concluded Alvarez.
Panu’s uncertainty about continuing playing basketball after high school made her enjoy her time on the court more this year.
“In the beginning of senior year, I wasn’t one hundred percent sure if I wanted to play in college, so having the thought of ‘maybe this is my last year’ allowed me to just give it my all,” mentioned Panu.
Despite the season reaching its end, the Girls Basketball team were able to have a successful season, as well as regularly learning from one another.
