You sit in your car, anxiously waiting
For something, somewhere to happen.
This life has dealt you a bad hand,
Misfortune at every corner.
The pouring rain does not
Help quell this evil sentiment.
It pounds on the roof of your car,
As something boils inside.
The looming darkness
Threatens to seize you.
Little does it know,
There’s nothing left to take.
Yet, as you leave the small driveway
Of the place you call home,
While the wind gusts by,
As caused from emotionless passing metal,
Hinting at the apparent indifference of its occupants,
You see light.
The headlights of your car
Illuminate the path ahead.
You realize you are not alone.
You have been supported all your life,
Dangling between liberty and chastisement.
You leave the darkness behind you and
Venture past this mundane life.
Now, it’s time to choose a way fit for you,
Not catered to the critics.
