This year’s Sadie Hawkins dance presented a theme of “Dynamic Duos.” It was hosted by the class of 2027 and took place on February 17. With perseverance and care the dance was put together by the freshman class and their advisors, Mrs. Rodriguez and Ms. Martinez.
The advisors helped prepare the dance as well as guide the students into transforming Sadies into a memorable night.
“My experience being a class advisor for a school dance was pretty stressful at first, but getting to work with the students and my co-advisor, Ms. Martinez, made it all worth it. It was fun seeing it all come together,” shared Mrs. Rodriguez.
The theme Dynamic Duo shined through the night as students could be seen dressed as their favorite iconic duos.
“Sadies is mainly a couples dance so it was a no-brainer for us to decide the theme,” expressed Jonathan Godinez.
The theme was successful in encouraging students to participate. Duos could be found dressed as characters such as Fred and Velma from Scooby Doo, to niche characters like SharkBoy and Lava Girl, as well as casual wear such as matching shirts.
“I thought the theme was cute and was very versatile so everyone had many different options [to] make it personal to them and their duo,” explained Kennedi Carssaco.
On the dance floor people could be seen dancing and singing along to the music. But the real show stopper was the photobooth.
Students were able to capture their memories by using the photobooth and could customize their pictures with a variety of props. Directly from the booth, students received the pictures via message or email, allowing the station to be easy and fun.
“I also really liked the photo booth and how it was personalized,” expressed Addyson Fernandez-Garfield.
Students also had the opportunity to purchase professional pictures at the dance, creating a sentimental memento to remember the night by.
Street Corner Tacos was another fan favorite at the dance. It was agreed among students that the food from the taco truck was delicious.
“One of my personal highlights was the taco truck. They had various items on the menu,” stated Godinez.
This sweetheart dance did not disappoint when it came to dessert. The dessert table had everything from cookies to a chocolate fondue fountain.
“My favorite thing about the dance was the food truck as well as having the chocolate fountain for strawberries and marshmallows,” expressed Carrasco.
One unexpected obstacle that was encountered for the preparation of the dance was advertising.
“We had a big obstacle to overcome and that was the promotion,” explained Godinez.
“The daily bulletin wasn’t available for two weeks which means not a ton of people were aware of the dance.”
In order to overcome this challenge they found new ways to spread the word.
“We posted a lot of the dance on instagram,” Godinez shared.
By pivoting their advertisement to social media, it allowed students to become aware and excited for the dance.
The decorations showcased the care and time put into the dance. By the use of balloon arches, candles, flower centerpieces, and pink and red incorporated throughout the decorations, it transformed the dining hall into a perfect sweetheart dance.
Although the class of 2027 faced challenges, they overcame them and put together a truly memorable night for students.
