As Selma High’s Boys’ soccer season continues they strive to finish it off well. On their list of goals is winning a Valley championship. Their league record is 2-3-1 and they have been working hard to make a championship possible.
The boys begin their hard work with practice where they go through multiple different drills which can become very intense. Though it can be tough, the team edures the drills knowing only progress will come out of them.
“We work on reflexes, dives, throws, passes, corner kicks, and quick feet, ” says sophomore goalkeeper Immanuel Renteria.
Along with practices, Selma boy’s soccer team is aware that they must also improve on the challenges they face as a team. A big obstacle this season has been confidence.
“We seemed to be cooped up on the negatives and what we are as a team in the present, but we don’t strive to build a team for the future,” stated junior midfielder Guadalupe Renteria.
It’s evident for the team that their overall bond must be improved in order to gain more confidence on the field. Their differences must be put aside and work together to achieve the best result possible.
Behind a soccer team is a coach. Coach Ruben Zamora leads Selma High’s boys’ varsity soccer team alongside assistant coaches Antonio Torres and Rigo Torres. These coaches are helping to lead the Selma High Boys Varsity soccer team to a valley championship. They are also very mindful of the challenges the boys face.
“Our players are motivated within, from the passion they have for this beautiful game, Stated Zamora.”
Despite sometimes lacking confidence, the team is still very optimistic.
“We have shown many times this season that we are capable of beating anyone,” says Immanuel Renteria.
