An enchanted forest winter formal, hosted by the class of 2026, took place on December 9, 2023 in the dining hall. Many students from the sophomore class worked together alongside the advisors to help bring this vision to life.
“We chose the ‘Enchanted Forest’ theme because we felt it was a good Formal theme that many would be able to dress to,” stated Cassius “Cash” Sesate.
The thought that was put into the theme was worth it since people who attended dressed appropriately.
The advisors, Mr. Alvarez and Mr. Montemayor, invested their time into putting in paperwork, purchasing supplies and decorations, and booking the DJ.
Many students believe that Formal was a successful dance. Students were able to enjoy the decorations, music, and food with their friends.
“I think the event turned out really good. I feel like everyone enjoyed Formal,” stated Jayleen Sisavanh.
“I thought the Winter Formal was a success. Usually, I hear negative comments about the DJ, but this year not a single one. He definitely had the students dancing and singing pretty much the entire night,” commented Mr. Montemayor. “There was this moment when all the kids on the dance floor were singing to Taylor Swift’s ’You Belong With Me,’ which I thought was quite surprising.
However, all wasn’t a smooth ride while planning and setting up for this event. There was limited time to coordinate everything that had to be planned.
“A challenge we faced was setting up. We started setting up the day before, after school for a few hours, then again, the day of formal, for about half the day. It took a lot of time with all the detail, but it was overall worth it because it looked so pretty,” Alexis Aguilara shared.
Working together, everyone involved put forth their best efforts to create a memorable experience for Selma High students.
“The idea of planning something for others is a nerve wrecking thing, but it truly takes a lot of work, time, and dedication to make something happen. It’s always a learning opportunity and [I’m] glad that it’s past us. [I] can’t wait for the next dances coming up this school year,” Mr. Alvarez expressed.
This formal was definitely a process everyone had to trust but in the end it was all worth it. The event came together right on time.
“The event turned out amazing. Many students showed up and admired the decorations that went along with the theme,” said Gurleen Kaur.
This night is one to remember. Many people came together and created lots of new memories with others. The people who worked together successfully created this special event others were able to attend.
