Starting January 18th, Selma High’s AVID seniors took a two-day trip to Disneyland and universities in the Los Angeles area.
The AVID Class of 2024 spent the first day of the trip at Disneyland. Mrs. Manter, AVID teacher, notes how special the trip is for the students.
“What I love about the AVID Senior Trip is [that] it creates an opportunity for the AVID seniors to become closer as a class by providing fun memories,” said Mrs. Manter.
As AVID students, these seniors have taken the steps to prepare for and apply to their dream colleges and universities. On the second day of their trip, they took a peek into their upcoming college campus life by visiting UC Irvine and CSU Long Beach.
Seeing the campuses during the school year in person, many AVID students were hit with the realization that they would soon be entering a new stage of life.
“Going to colleges opened my eyes more and made me realize that I’m going to be there in a couple months,” Destiny Moreno, AVID senior, recalled. “It created a good but scary feeling.”
With only a couple months left of their high school years, the seniors appreciated the extra time they got to spend together during their trip.
“Since it was one of my last senior trips, it [felt] bittersweet,” Destiny Moreno added. “I made sure to make as many memories as I could.”
Not only did this trip make students emotional, but AVID teachers felt a sense of pride as well.
“They have put in the hard work to build a solid foundation to be prepared for the next step of their lives,” Mrs. Manter praised. “I am looking forward to seeing what colleges they plan on attending in the fall!”
