The United States of America has been regarded as the ideal country all across the world. America’s power and opportunities may be quintessential and seem to set the standard for other countries. Everyone looks up to our nation and admires it. However, despite our nation seeming perfect, there are some flaws. These flaws have been overlooked and impact not just America, but the world.
To begin, our healthcare system is disturbing. High medical costs have been a problem for the public. Countries like Brazil and the United Kingdom have free healthcare. It is expected that with high medical costs comes effective treatment full of quality. Nevertheless, this quality is lacking. Doctors are busy and they don’t have the time to deeply analyze what is going on with their patients. They can’t do every single test on their patients, so they do the basics and go on to other patients. Health should be a priority, but unfortunately, the healthcare system is ineffective.
Not only that, in urban cities there are numerous clinics, so access to doctors is easier. You can easily obtain an appointment on the same day. However, in rural and lower-income areas, you may sometimes get an appointment almost a month away. Just for that 15-minute appointment, patients will suffer for a month. Healthcare funding needs to be invested in the right area. Doctors see these issues every day and they can speak up about it, but it seems like they don’t.
Similar to the healthcare system, our government has allowed for many things that can’t be comprehended. Almost daily we hear of things getting recalled or labeled with warnings of health risks. Our government can control all of this but still doesn’t. There are also things available in our country that are banned elsewhere because of their effects. For example, Gatorade, Coffee Mate creamer, and Skittles are banned in some countries, but the U.S. still allows them to be manufactured. All of these can be banned, but our government has little emphasis on that. Let’s not even forget the fact that the U.S. has a low life expectancy rate. It is sickening to comprehend that a country this wealthy, which spends tons on healthcare, falls behind many countries in life expectancy.
Another pivotal system that needs to be changed is the education system. Although some of our education is free compared to other countries, it is not the best. Many countries are advancing in education and technology compared to America, like China or European countries. The U.S. asks for these students with an abundance of knowledge to come here. If we put a bigger emphasis on changing the way our education system works, it can produce many benefits. For a country with countless resources and wealth, it needs to be allocated differently.
There is much hope instilled in our nation, and I think we have some imperfections we can improve on. All nations are imperfect, not one nation is the best. Our nation may be well at countless things, but there are also things we are just not the best at. All I know is that I have high expectations for America to improve on itself.
