It’s nearing Thanksgiving, the time when school gets out and everyone gets to enjoy time with family and friends with a week of festivities. But, there are also families who are struggling to make ends meet and put food on the table this Thanksgiving season.
Selma High School has partnered with “Selma Cares” to provide support to families this Thanksgiving season. This year, Selma High School is hosting a canned food drive in all classes in order to help out families. The class with the most canned food will be winning a hot chocolate party.
“Selma Cares is diligent at providing compassionate care to those in need,” stated the Selma Cares website.
Created almost over 30 years ago, Selma Cares has been continuing to try to reach their goal of helping those in need within Selma. They have partnered with non-profits in order to spread their agenda of giving back to the community with any resources they can retrieve. They have partnered with the Selma Fire Fighters Association, Selma Police Officers Association, the Rotary Club of Selma, along with Selma High School, of course.
“Selma Cares service is a result of the community of Selma working together to help meet the needs of Selma families who have a crisis situation and need temporary help. That help can be food, clothing, or other necessities that may come up for a family” mentioned Selma Cares’ website.
Along with canned food, they are also accepting donations such as dry goods, money to pay the cost of items needed, and volunteering to help put boxes together for the Christmas food & toy giveaway.
“We thank Selma Care for their Safety Net of Support, and for being a valued and contributing partner as we work to educate students of Selma,” Selma High’s website said.
Selma High School gladly assists with helping out Selma Cares in their mission to assist families in having a spectacular Thanksgiving.
