With the homecoming game ending 47-21 on Oct. 20th, that brings our record to 1-8. The football team looks back on their improvements since the start of this season.
Coach Harshaw reflects on the team and how they have changed since the start of this season.
“I got to see our players grow. Not just as athletes and their skills on the field, but actually as men in the world. I also love how our defense is playing right now,
Harshaw also shared what he’d like the team to improve on before the end of the season.
“Well of course you always want to score more points, make more turnovers, and see your athletes’ success. I’d like to improve our consistency, overall. Just be consistent, with everyone doing their job,” he said.
Football is not a sport solely based on winning and losing, but a game of learning and improving. Through their experiences they have not only learned personal life skills, but have grown closer as a team.
“I would say getting closer to everybody has been enjoyable, since my first year I just wanted an open mind about the sport. And just figure out how I could be a benefit to the team,” Shared Lorenzo Perez, a senior on the team.
The team has built upon valuing work ethic, and teamwork. Although they have had their ups and downs, the team knows what they should work on and how to learn from themselves.
“I just want to better myself as a whole, and keep learning from football. There’s a lot of discipline that comes from training and everything else. It’s not just about the sport but also building yourself as a person,” he said.
“We learn, and continue to progress consistently,” Harshaw mentioned.
The bears had a positive outlook going into the game that friday night.
Coach Harshaw stated, “I always expect to win, especially with our bears. We work hard, and we get things done during practice. But the game of football is just such a strange beast in itself, so anything can always happen,”
“We’re not just gonna give up, I feel like we’re gonna fight no matter what,” Lorenzo expressed.
Even with some setbacks, the team is working on becoming stronger together and are improving themselves on and off the field.
