If I had superpowers, would I be a superhero? Absolutely not.
You wouldn’t be a superhero either. Allow me to explain.
For starters, I have a life. You have a life. No matter how uneventful that life may be, we need to get things done, regardless of our desires. Whether we focus on school or work, we are busy. Who would even have time to be a superhero?
Not only is time an issue, but money.
Have you ever seen a superhero get paid? NO! All the superheroes that actually have money are born filthy rich; Batman, Black Panther, etc. If I had superpowers and decided to be a hero, the government would see me as free security. How am I going to live with all my time spent on saving others? I’m not even all that patriotic. I feel no need to protect this self destructive country.
I am not only broke, but I am a big wimp, “A wet, soggy piece of lettuce,” as I say. I am not brave enough to fight super villains or stop a moving car. I won’t be willing to do any of these superhero trademarks. I literally almost died killing a cockroach. I’m not going to fight a psychotic villain.
People like to think they are braver than they actually are. No, you aren’t going to fight a mob of villains all on your own. No, you will absolutely not fly away with a ticking bomb to protect total strangers. We simply aren’t built for that.
Don’t forget about the pain. Superheroes get hit with the power of a truck going at 90 mph. They don’t have painkillers in their immune system! They face it head on. Are you that strong? Let me answer this for you: No. We feel pain and we run away. We hide, cry, whatever it takes to feel better. People can’t tolerate the reality of being a superhero.
In all honesty, I think being a superhero is foolish.
If I woke up with superpowers one day, I would probably rob a bank. Another plan I have would be to hold some billionaire for ransom. I think I would kidnap Taylor Swift; all the Swifties would unite and pay me as much money as I wanted to get her back. Don’t worry, I wouldn’t torture anyone.
I am not saying I plan to be a villain, I simply would want to become rich. I would put my hostage on top of a hill or tower where they could chill until I received my payment.
People glorify heroism as a sacred position where you’re labeled as “The Chosen One.” I think if people randomly got powers, they would try to be heroes at first simply because they felt obligated to. However, they would quickly realize that being a hero isn’t all that great. With there being no pay, lots of pain, and some personal trauma, people would quickly retire from the role “superhero.” There would be a huge increase in crime, looting, and other apocalyptic occurrences.
Dare I say I have no hope for this world if superpowers ever existed.
People aren’t qualified to be superheroes. We are made to live, not to fight, sacrifice, or suffer.
